Matrigupta (in Purvashrama) was doing service to the previous Acharya Shri Muka Shankara. At the time he was very proud of his own accomplishment in poetry. However, to liberate him from his pride, Shri Muka Shankara gave by His mere glance the capacity of composing poetry to the man taking care of the Math’s horses, one Ramilla, and the Math’s elephants, one Menthaka. Seeing this, Matrigupta gained humility realizing that such capabilities of poetry etc are fleeting and should not be a cause of pride.
Later the Acharya sent Matrigupta to be with the famous King Harsha Vikramaditya. At the time, the Kashmir King Toramana had passed away but his son Pravarasena was a small child. During that period, appointed by Harsha Vikramaditya, Matrigupta temporarily administered Kashmir.
Later He took sannyasa from Shri Muka Shankara. After the Siddhi of His Guru, He stayed solely on the banks of the Ganga, performing penance, and attained Siddhi there only.
श्रीसर्वज्ञसदाशिवबोधेन्द्रकृता पुण्यश्लोकमञ्जरी
अर्चाचन्दनपेषणाद् भगवतः श्रीशङ्करेन्द्रार्चित-
स्यारूढः पदवीं कवेरनुसृतेर्हर्षस्य भूत्वा नृपः।
काश्मीरेषु विरज्य विक्रम-मृतौ गृह्णन् गुरोः प्राक्तनात्
सन्न्यासं स हि कोङ्कणाच्युतसुतः श्रीचन्द्रचूडोऽभवत्॥४५॥
अब्दान् देवनदीतटे दश नयन् आचार्यभूतो भुवो
धन्वन्तर्यवतारम् आर्यमधुरं निक्षिप्य पीठे निजे।
दत्त्वाऽस्मै परिपूर्णबोधबिरुदं भेजे व्यये चाव्ययं
धाम स्वं जननाष्टमीनिशि हरेः श्रीचन्द्रचूडाश्रमी॥४६॥
॥ श्रीसदाशिवेन्द्रसरस्वतीश्रीचरणविरचिता जगद्गुरु-रत्न-माला ॥
अनु-जह्नु-सुतातिवाहिताहं विधिनाऽऽराधित-शङ्करं विमोहम् ।
शरणं समुपैमि चन्द्र-चूडं चरण-प्रौढ-तपः-पतत्रि-नीडम् ॥ ५१ ॥
॥ पञ्चषष्टितमैः पीठाधिपतिभिः श्रीमत्सुदर्शनमहादेवेन्द्रसरस्वतीश्रीचरणैः प्रणीतः श्री-काञ्ची-कामकोटि-पीठ-जगद्-गुरु-परम्परा-स्तवः ॥
(२१) चन्द्रचूड-पद-ध्यान-प्राप्तानन्द-महोदधीन् ।
यतीन्द्रांश्चन्द्रचूडेन्द्रान् स्मरामि मनसा सदा ॥ ३० ॥
